One Man Show

Anton Del Castillo, a multi-awarded artist and Grand Prize winner of the Metrobank Foundation’s National Young Painters’ Annual Art Competition in 2003, opens his first solo exhibition titled Under One Roof at the Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo (Small Gallery) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Thursday, November 17, at 6:30 pm.

Composed of eight artworks painted in oil on gold leaf panels, each work is at once a visual expression and revelation of the artist’s commentary about war in the hope to awaken the viewers on the dreadful vision of war in this millennium.

In this exhibit, Del Castillo became a visual commentator narrating various episodes of war such as that of a theater play reflecting themes of heroism and self sacrifice, tragedy and loss of lives, chaos and violence, battles and superiority and finally equality, unity and peace.

The collection is a powerful plea for peace as the artist feel deeply for both the Christian and Muslim soldiers and their families in the hope that once and for all, this senseless war will be put to an end.

Anton Del Castillo graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Q.C. He also has a Masters in Fine Arts from the same University.

Prior to these, Del Castillo was outstanding student artist in 2004 and has joined a number of notable group exhibitions since 1997.
